My research aims to fill in the knowledge gaps in our understanding of the enormous potential of two-dimensional confined systems for generating and retaining magnetism and superconductivity following depressurization from ultra-high pressures. The confinement characteristics are tuned by adjusting interlayer spacing between graphene oxide layers through organic linkers, and the subsequent entrapment of in situ-generated nanoparticles that create strain in the system. I found that the induced strain within 2D sheets creates an induced pressure that can be used to tailor and preserve the properties of confinement systems.
