New presentation on mixing rules for predicting the sooting tendencies of fuel mixtures

Monday, August 30, 2021

Congratulations to Aurora, who gave her first conference presentation at last week’s ACS Fall Meeting.  The meeting was held in Atlanta, but unfortunately due to covid Aurora attended and presented virtually.  We have measured sooting tendencies for hundreds of pure compounds, but most real fuels are mixtures.  In her presentation Aurora showed that the sooting tendencies of gasoline-like mixtures can be accurately predicted by a simple linear mixing rule.  Thus the existing measurements for pure compounds can be used with this mixing rule to design fuel mixtures that produce the lowest possible soot emissions.  The presentation is available at https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.16527507.v1.
